Prayers

Places to focus on in Prayer:
North-west Haiti where hospitals are unable to deal with the many people wounded in Saturday’s earthquake and its aftershocks.

People to focus on in Prayer:
The many people of Honduras who have lost their homes in heavy rain and the resultant floods.

We hold before God all who have asked for our prayers
and all those whose names are on the “Remembrance Tree” in Algitha Road.

We pray for:
Amanda -- enjoying her holiday in Italy.

Remember loved ones who have died and pray for those who grieve, particularly for Mr & Mrs Padfield for the loss of his father in Coventry.

The Lectionary readings for this week are

Mark 10:17-31.  Hebrews 4:12-16.
Psalm.90:12-17. Amos 5:6-7, 10-15.

Jesus the Great High Priest.
Let us, then, hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we have a great High Priest who has gone into the very presence of God – Jesus, the Son of God. Our High Priest is not one who cannot feel sympathy for our weaknesses. On the contrary, we have a High Priest who was tempted in every way that we are, but did not sin. Let us be brave, then, and approach God’s throne, where there is grace. There we will receive mercy and find grace to help us just when we need it.

From a Prayer used by the Church of South India.
O God, whose blessed Son, our great High Priest ever liveth to intercede on our behalf: grant that we may draw near with full assurance of faith and evermore serve thee, the living God; through thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee,   O Father, and with the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end.
Amen.
