All people affected by natural disasters – floods, storms, droughts, fires and earth movements.
All people who exercise governmental power over their citizens in so many troubled countries.
All people who seek governmental power for varying motives.
All media folk on whom we rely for honest, unbiased information on our fellows.
All misguided people who think that they can impose their will by terrorist or violent acts.
All people adversely affected by the greed, carelessness or violence of others.
All people known, or unknown, to us who suffer physical, mental or spiritual trouble.
All people known, or unknown, to us who mourn the passing of a loved one, be it through old age,
sickness, in natural disasters, or by human error at sea, in the air, on the rails or on the roads.
From “Prayers for use in Schools” (1928).
Take from us, O Heavenly Father, all pride and vanity, all boasting and forwardness, and give us the true courage that shows itself by gentleness; the true wisdom that shows itself by simplicity; and the true power that shows itself by modesty and thought for others; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
