Prayers

Places to focus on in Prayer:
The World which is facing its greatest threat in a many years and the extinction of much of its environment and the death of many people.

People to focus on in Prayer:
Good, sensible, scientific people who talk good sense and all the opinionated political fools who do not listen.

We hold before God all who have asked for our prayers –
and those whose names are on the “Prayer Tree” in Algitha Road.

We pray for:
All those who will work hard to provide the Lunch on Friday.

Remember loved ones who have died and pray for those who grieve.

The Lectionary readings for this week are

Luke 3:1-6. Philippians 1:3-11.
Luke. 1:68-79. Malachi 3:1-4.

John the Baptist.
The word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the desert. So John went throughout the whole territory of the River Jordan, preaching, “Turn away from your sins and be baptized, and God will forgive your sins.” As it is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah : “Someone is shouting in the desert; ‘Get the road ready for the Lord; make a straight path for him to travel ! Every valley must be filled up, every hill and mountain levelled off. … All people will see God’s salvation !’ ”

A Prayer from an unknown source.
Creator Spirit, who in the beginning hovered over the waters, who at Jesus’ baptism descended in the form of a dove, and who at Pentecost was poured out under the sign of fire and wind; come to us, open our hearts and minds, so that we may hear the life-giving word and be renewed by your power, in the unity of the Father and the Son, now and forever.          Amen.
